General Questions

Before Surgery

  • Follow all pre-operative instructions provided by your surgeon.
  • Avoid eating or drinking after midnight before your procedure, unless instructed otherwise.
  • Arrange for transportation home, as you will not be able to drive after receiving anesthesia.
  • Some medications may need to be stopped before surgery. Your doctor will provide specific guidance on what to take and what to avoid.
  • A valid ID and insurance information.
  • A list of your current medications.
  • Comfortable, loose-fitting clothing.
  • Any necessary medical devices (e.g., CPAP machine, if required).

The Day of Surgery

  • The length of surgery depends on the procedure being performed. Your surgeon will provide an estimated time during your consultation.
  • Most procedures require either general anesthesia, local anesthesia, or sedation. Your anesthesiologist will discuss the best option for you.
  • Your family can stay in the waiting area and will be updated on your progress. After surgery, they may be able to join you in the recovery area once you are stable.

After Surgery & Recovery

  • Rest and avoid strenuous activities.
